For better cotton

More and more sustainable. Suppoerting responsible cotton production.

Since 2020 ETERNA is proud Members of the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI). BCI is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to transform cotton production worldwide.

Sustainability is everyday’s business for ETERNA. But sustainably working companies nowadays are not satisfied with what they already have achivied but are striving for continuous improvements regarding environmentally friendly, responsible and fair textile production. That is why ETERNA now is proud member of the Better Cotton Initiative.

Better Cotton Initiative BCI aims to transform cotton production worldwide by developing Better Cotton as a sustainable mainstream commodity. The Better Cotton Initiative exists to make global cotton production better for the people who produce it, better for the environment it grows in, and better for the sector’s future.

BCI trains farmers to use water efficiently, care for soil health and natural habitats, reduce the use of the most harmful chemicals and respect workers’ rights and wellbeing. The Better Cotton Standard System is a holistic approach to sustainable cotton production which covers all three pillars of sustainability: environmental, social and economic.

Better Cotton is based on a so-called mass balance system: Better Cotton is not physically traceable to end products. However, BCI Farmers benefit from the demand for Better Cotton in equivalent volumes to those we ‘source’. ETERNA is committed to sourcing 70 per cent of its cotton as ‘more sustainable cotton’ by 2022. ‘More sustainable cotton’ includes cotton sourced as Better Cotton, recycled, Fairtrade and organic cotton.
