Green Button helps consumers find sustainable textiles

The scheme owner is the German Federal Ministry for economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Long before other companies discovered the ‘sustainability’ trend, ETERNA’s production was already environmentally friendly, socially responsible and fair. In 2000, ETERNA was the only fashion manufacturer in the world to be certified with the highest OEKO-TEX® Standard 100plus, which today corresponds to the product label MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX. Now ETERNA also carries products certified with the Green Button.

The Green Button sets out mandatory requirements to protect people and the environment in the textile production process. A total of 26 stringent social and environmental product criteria must be met – ranging from wastewater to forced labour. These criteria are fulfilled by the product label MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX, which has long been awarded to shirts and blouses from ETERNA. Consumers can thus be doubly sure that the companies are behaving responsibly.

The special thing about the Green Button is that, in addition to each individual product, the company as a whole is constantly reviewed on the basis of 20 other corporate criteria. This makes it the first government-run certification label to systematically audit companies for compliance with human rights and environmental due diligence in their supply chains.

The government defines the criteria and conditions for the Green Button, creating clarity and trust. Independent auditors review compliance with the criteria.
