Track the production of our clothing, which is worn by men and women in Europe and around the world. Find out more about how we grow the cotton for our custom-made men’s shirts (that fit like made-to-measure shirts!) or for our women’s blouses. Enter the EAN code on your item of clothing and trace back the entire value chain.

1. Raw materials

Only 3% of the cotton grown in the world meets our exacting quality standards.

However, quality alone is not the only factor we assess. ETERNA only sources cotton from regions where the raw materials are produced under fair working conditions. ETERNA also attaches great importance to environmentally responsible cotton farming. We source our cotton from plantations in Egypt and Georgia (USA). In both regions, we avoid monocultures in order to protect the soil and prevent pests. We use extra-long staple cotton to ensure the garments we produce feel good to the touch, look good and are comfortable to wear.

2. Fabric production

In order to transform cotton into a high-quality fabric, three steps are needed:

Spinning, weaving and finishing. ETERNA ensures strictest quality guidelines for environmental protection, social responsibility and sustainability are observed in each of these processes. Independent institutes monitor compliance with all requirements. This is reflected in product labels such as OEKO-TEX®. The OEKO-TEX® 100 standard guarantees pollutant testing, while OEKO-TEX® STeP certification ensures that all ETERNA partners comply with strict standards for chemical management, environmental performance, environmental management, social responsibility, quality management, health protection and occupational safety.

3. Manufacture

ETERNA attaches great importance to high-quality fabrics, transparent sustainabilty practices, social responsibilty and certified working conditions.

Regardless of whether the shirts and blouses are manufactured in our own factories in Slovakia or by our partner in Vietnam – we apply the same high quality, environmental and social standards. Here again, independent OEKO-TEX® institutes conduct tests and award certification based on STeP criteria. The entire value chain has to be seamlessly monitored and certified, and must comply fully with the requirements for the OEKO-TEX® 100 standard in order for a finished shirt or blouse to be awarded the highest level of certification: the MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX® product label. By entering the EAN code, consumers can then track the entire production process and verify the sustainability of our workflows.

4. Logistics

We plan short routes to cut kilometres and emissions.

None of the lorries that travel the 500 km between the company headquarters in Passau, Germany, and the factory in Bánovce, Slovakia, ever travels empty. En route to Slovakia, they generally transport fabrics and raw materials; on the return journey, they’re packed with finished shirts. For our production sites in the Far East, we source the raw materials locally to keep delivery routes as short as possible. For deliveries, packaging for fabrics is reused as many times as possible. It is only discarded when it becomes absolutely unserviceable. Only then is it recycled.

5. Trade

In 2013, all ETERNA brand stores switched to using certified green electricity from 100% renewable sources.

To date, this has enabled us to save 2,500 tonnes of CO2. In 2015, we switched from plastic bags to paper bags. And waste prevention is an important issue not only in our brand stores, but also in our online shop – virtually all orders are shipped in packaging made from recovered fibres. Soon we’ll be introducing major changes to our sales packaging. The aim is to no longer use plastic here, but to switch to recycling or biodegradable materials or to do without outer packaging altogether. This is already being implemented for some of the goods.
